Paper Patchwork, Pockets and Pleats Masterclass with Jennifer Collier

£50.00

As part of her Arts Council Grant to develop her creative practice Jennifer has been learning new stitches and techniques, and discovering how to translate the art of lost stitches onto paper. These techniques are an important part of our creative heritage and she wants to continue to invest time in them to keep them in the present, offering them onto future generations.

Therefore we are hosting real life subsidised masterclasses at Unit Twelve so she can pass on these techniques to others. This Paper Patchwork, Pockets and Pleats Masterclass is a sampler’s workshop with a difference, as all the traditional embroidery techniques will all be created using paper. Jennifer will show a range of patchworking techniques, such as Cathedral Squares, pleating, covered buttons, button loop, covered bindings and patch pockets all made using beautiful vintage papers. All materials are provided, but do bring your own special papers, books or maps to personalise.

Please note in this workshop Jennifer will be teaching you these techniques using fabric. These stitches are quite fiddly, so a basic knowledge of hand stitch is required to participate in this workshop.

We are offering 2 free spaces for individuals who have financial challenges, caring responsibilities, or any other barrier in accessing art workshops. We will not ask for proof of earnings or personal circumstances, but would ask you to simply provide a brief reason so we can ensure a comfortable environment for you in the workshop. Please email [email protected] to claim a free place (these are offered on a first come first served basis)

All materials and equipment, included edged fabric are provided, but you may wish to bring a basic sewing kits and your favourite single strand threads. And if you wear them do bring your reading glasses!

The workshop is 10 - 3pm
