Priscilla Edwards: Curious Creatures Sculpture Workshop
Explore the extraordinary possibilities of working with lightweight wire to create a figurative piece that incorporates found materials. Priscilla will share with you her unique combination of creative techniques and show you how to shape wire using pliers and fingertip manipulation to make a structure. You can incorporate your own found materials such as vintage doll parts and pieces of china ornaments into your piece, and can choose for it to be free standing or suspended. Priscilla will demonstrate the process of applying layers of silk and wax to your piece, which can than be embellished by adding stitching, touches of paper, paint, buttons, broken jewellery and beads.
As the sculptures develop you will see their distinct characters unfolding and become your own unique creation, that include fragments of precious fabrics and treasures from your own collections. Priscilla will have examples of her own work available and will talk you through how she puts pieces together, to provide an insight into her making process and how she develops ideas. All materials will be provided, but do bring along materials to personalise your piece such as broken china or doll parts, paper ephemera, feathers, haberdashery, buttons, lace, threads, beads, old zips and broken jewellery. And if you have them light weight fabrics (cottons and silks work best) and a pair of grip pliers.
The workshop is 10 - 4pm
