Stitched Paper Pockets Masterclass with Jennifer Collier
As part of her Arts Council Grant to develop her creative practice Jennifer has been learning new stitches and techniques, and discovering how to translate the art of lost stitches onto paper. These techniques are an important part of our creative heritage and she wants to continue to invest time in them to keep them in the present, offering them onto future generations.
Therefore we are hosting subsidised masterclasses so she can pass on these techniques to others. In this workshop you will create a paper pocket for vintage, recycled papers. You will learn a range of 'Heritage' stitches to embellish your pocket, along with being given lots of hints and tips for stitching paper my hand. You will be provided with a paper template (inspired by the Gawthorpe Hall Textile collection) and be shown how you construct the pieces together with paper bias binding to create a personalised decorative paper pocket. All materials and equipment are provided, but you may wish to bring a basic sewing kits and your own special papers, such as letters, newspapers, maps, photos, and even photocopies or heirloom textiles (1st Image) to really personalise your piece.
We are offering 2 free spaces for individuals who have financial challenges, caring responsibilities, or any other barrier in accessing art workshops. We will not ask for proof of earnings or personal circumstances, but would ask you to simply provide a brief reason so we can ensure a comfortable environment for you in the workshop.
